The benefits of Salt Chlorination:
We are confident you will absolutely love the feeling of the water after using salt chlorination.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Question: What is a salt system and how does it work?
Answer: A Salt System generator creates its own chlorine. A certain amount of salt is added to the pool water (depending on the volume). The power pack is then hooked up to the pool electrical system and the electrode (or cell) is plumbed in to your existing pool plumbing. As the salt water passes over the electrode, a small electrical charge in the plates of the electrode break down the saltwater into chlorine gas, hydrogen and sodium hydroxide.
Question: Why would I want to convert to a salt system?
Answer: The addition of salt to the water creates a soft water bathing atmosphere. The human body is composed of approximately 5,000 parts per million of salt. Pool water without a salt water system will pull the salt from a bather’s body causing dry skin and in some cases irritation to eyes and mucous membrane. The salt level of a pool with a salt system is approximately 3,000-4,000 parts per million thus reducing dry skin and red eye irritation.
Question: Will this cause any damage to the pump or filter?
Answer: No, this system will have no impact on your equipment
Question: My pool is under warranty, will this void it?
Answer: No, this should not have any impact on the warranty of the equipment or the pool. The only area the builder will not warranty is where we plumbed the unit in, and we will warranty that for as long as you are on our pool service.
Question: Will this cause white stuff to build up on my rock water fall or the sides of the pool?
Answer: No, the white build up is Calcium that comes from the water. Water evaporates from the pool leaving behind all minerals and/or metals which in time saturates the pool water. We recommend draining your pool when your calcium hardness level reaches 800 parts per million.
Question: Are you going to raise your prices after you install the salt system?
Answer: No, in fact we are installing these units in an effort not to raise our prices.
Question: I’m sensitive to chlorine; is this going to increase the level of chlorine that is in my pool?
Answer: No, in fact this should be better for you. Currently we add chlorine to the pool every other week. Throughout the course of the week, the chlorine level diminishes via UV rays, swimmers, leaves/debris. Because chlorine will be generated each time the pump turns on, we will be able to maintain lower chlorine levels than we currently do.
Question: How much will my electric bill increase?
Answer: The salt unit draws under 2 amps of power- this equates to less than $5.00 per month of electricity.
Question: How salty is the water going to taste?
Answer: The salinity of the pool water equates to about half that of a human teardrop. The actual taste of salt in the water will be very minor.
