Indoor Pools: What You Need To KnowIndoor swimming pools are a great addition to any property. Investing in a natatorium not only offers freedom to enjoy your pool year-round, but can transport you – and your patrons – to a luxurious oasis.

Indoor pools have many uses. The area can double as a spa, personal gym, living room, or a go to space for entertaining.

Here are some things to consider before tackling an indoor pool construction project:

Monitor humidity levels. Ideal levels should be between 50% – 60%.

Knowledge is power. Finding an experienced pool builder and architect is vital to developing an indoor pool experience that is stress free down the road.

Distribution is key. A proper dehumidification system should push air evenly across the outside walls instead of the pool surface to avoid condensation and evaporation.

Avoid the rain. Follow the 2 degree rule. Common practice is to keep the air temperature within two to four degrees above the pool water temperature. This stops “rain”, aka condensation.

Protect the structure. Like with all wet indoor environments, plastic vapor barriers are necessary to place behind walls to prevent moisture from damaging the structural integrity of the space. Insufficient protection can cause mold and degradation.

Never underestimate. Your future self will thank you. Keep in mind that the equipment/facility room should be spacious enough to fit large equipment, staff, and make pool maintenance manageable.

Windows are recommended. Warm. Wet. Steamy. These environments also need an escape point. Without functioning windows hot air is trapped causing an even hotter uncomfortable environment.
